Colonel Scott A. Sauter is assigned
to the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs
(Readiness, Training, and Mobilization). As the Deputy Director for Training
Program Management, he develops plans and policy for matters referred to the
Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs.
Colonel
Sauter entered the Air Force in 1988 as a Distinguished Graduate of the Air
Force Reserve Officer Training Corps. Following completion of Undergraduate Pilot Training in 1990, he was assigned
to the 35th Flying Squadron at Reese Air Force Base, Texas as a T-37
Instructor Pilot, Check Pilot, and Assistant Flight Commander. In 1994, he transferred to the 22nd
Airlift Squadron at Travis Air Force Base, California where he served as a C-5
Aircraft Commander, Flight Examiner, and Flight Commander. Colonel Sauter
transitioned to the Air Force Reserve in 1998, and served as a C-5 Aircraft
Commander and Flight Examiner at Kelly AFB, Texas. In 2001, he was recalled to active duty in
support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. He later served as a Developmental Engineer and the Director of System
Safety and Test at the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center at Tinker AFB,
Oklahoma as well as the Individual Mobilization Augmentee to the 34th
Operations Group Director of Standardization and Evaluation at United States
Air Force Academy before accepting a position as a TG-10 Instructor Pilot with
the newly-formed 302d Operations Group Detachment 1. In 2006, he was
selected to command the 70th Flying Training Squadron, directing all reservists assigned to augment AETC’s management of aviation programs
at USAFA. In 2009, he was selected to
attend the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, graduating in 2010 prior to
being assigned to the Pentagon.
Colonel Sauter is a commercial airline pilot and
flight instructor for United Airlines. He has also held positions with Booz-Allen & Hamilton and Scitor
Corporation supporting Air Force Space Command and the Intelligence Community. He is a graduate of Catholic University with
a degree in Electrical Engineering and has several advanced degrees to include
a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering from Oklahoma State
University. He is married to the former
Diane Dunn, of Orange, Texas. They have three sons, Nicholas, Zachary, and
Joshua.
