STEM STUDENT AWARDS PROGRAM
DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA
Purpose
The purpose of the program is to annually recognize and motivate the most exceptional rising 11th grade male and female students in the District of Columbia with a career interest in the following science, technology, engineering and mathmatics (STEM) professions:
Astronomy
Aviation Technology
Biology
Biotechnology
Chemistry
Computer Information Technology
Computer Science
Education, Math Emphasis (all grades)
Education, Science Emphasis (all grades)
Electrical Engineering
Industrial Engineering
Computer Engineering
Mechanical Engineering
Structural Engineering
Architectural Engineering
Civil Engineering
Engineering Technology
Environmental Systems Technology
Forensic Science
Geology
Geographic Information Systems Technology
Health Information Technology
Interactive Simulation and Game Technology
Mathematics
Meteorology
Nanotechnology
Physics
Guidelines & Criteria
Only full-time students in a District high school who have completed the 10th grade are eligible to compete
Male and female students compete separately
A maximum of one male and one female student nomination will be accepted from each high school
Students must plan to enroll in a full-time STEM-oriented baccalaureate degree program at an accredited college or university
Nominees must be citizens of the United States on the date nominations are submitted; permanent legal resident status does not qualify
School must certify student has no record of criminal activity, history of drug use or disciplinary problems
Children of Air Force Association elected chapter officers are not eligible
Students must be nominated by the principal, head of school, or headmaster; letter of recommendation must accompany the completed nomination form
